To articulate UC San Diego’s unparalleled uniqueness in the community and across the globe, and to generate increased mindshare and visibility in advance of the public celebration of the $2 billion fundraising campaign, the campus recently launched a new brand campaign. Prompted in part by the recommendation of some of the university’s closest community leaders, the effort marks the first all-encompassing project of its kind for UC San Diego.

For newborn infants, research consistently shows that human milk provides the healthiest possible start to life. The impact is even more significant for premature babies, yet many of these tiny patients—who need human milk the most—may not get it, as their mothers are often ill and may not produce enough milk for their baby. While over the past decade more hospitals across the country have begun offering babies donor human milk, not all San Diego hospitals have access to donor milk due to costs, lack of knowledge and critical shortages in supply.

As the new school year kicked off last week, UC San Diego welcomed the largest and most diverse class of Chancellor’s Associates Scholars at a special welcome reception hosted by Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. The number of incoming Chancellor’s Associates scholars nearly doubled this year with 184 new scholarship recipients, bringing the campus total to 356 scholars.

University of California San Diego friend and supporter, Conrad Prebys died on Sunday, July 24, following a battle with cancer. The San Diego philanthropist and businessman was 82.

The late Mary Andrews Haag left more than $4.3 million from her estate to establish The Frederick and Mary Haag Scholarship Fund at the University of California San Diego. The scholarship bequest was directed from the Mary Andrews Haag Trusts to provide scholarships for outstanding UC San Diego undergraduates. Haag was a longtime San Diego resident and philanthropist. She died in November 2014, at the age of 92.
