Students Vote for Division I Move

UC San Diego’s undergraduate student body has voted in favor of moving the campus’ 23-team intercollegiate athletics program to NCAA Division I. In a weeklong election, students voted in approval of a referendum that will result in increased student fees to cover the costs associated with a non-football Division I athletic program.

Yet with hard work, coupled with the support of his family and the community, Nguyen is now pursuing his lifelong passion as an aerospace engineering major at UC San Diego.

Astrophysicist Inspires at Kyoto Prize Symposium

Swiss astronomer Michel Mayor, one of the world’s most renowned astrophysicists for planetary discovery, spoke at UC San Diego on March 23 as part of the 15th annual Kyoto Prize Symposium. The event, which was open to the public, inspired a wide range of attendees, from faculty to local high school students.

The Survey Says

UC San Diego staff members have an opportunity to make their opinions heard on topics ranging from overall employee satisfaction to supportiveness of supervisors through the annual campus Staff@Work Survey. As part of the 2015 survey, respondents were also able to share their thoughts about the campus climate at UC San Diego via a new section created in partnership with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

$5 Million ResMed Gift Supports Sleep Medicine at UC San Diego

The University of California, San Diego today announced a $5 million gift from locally based medical device company ResMed, Corp. (RMD) to support sleep medicine research and care at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. The donation was made to the university in honor of ResMed’s founder and chairman of the board, Peter Farrell, M.D. ResMed is an international leader in the development of equipment to treat and manage sleep-disordered breathing and other respiratory conditions.
