The University of California, San Diego is one of the nation’s “best value” colleges and universities, according to The Princeton Review’s book, “The Best Value Colleges: 2014 Edition.” The education services company has included UC San Diego in its “Best Value Colleges” publication for more than a decade.

The university had the third highest number of applicants among the University of California campuses. In recent years, UC San Diego has been one of the nation’s top five universities with the most applications.

Winter Game Fest Expected to Draw Thousands of Video Gamers

Thousands of UC San Diego’s video game enthusiasts are expected to participate in the campus’s ninth annual Winter Game Fest, one of the largest free video game festivals in Southern California. The event will be held from noon to 10 p.m. on Jan. 17 and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 19. The three-day festival, taking place in the Price Center East and West Ballrooms, has become a growing tradition at UC San Diego, each year offering more games, sponsors, prizes and fun.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine ranks the University of California, San Diego the 14th best value public university in the nation based on its high four-year graduation rate, low average student debt at graduation, the availability of financial aid, low sticker price and overall great value.

UC San Diego Recognizes World AIDS Day Dec. 2 with AIDS Memorial Quilt Display

The University of California, San Diego will recognize World AIDS Day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2 with a variety of free, public events, including a viewing of portions of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the largest ongoing art project in the world. This year’s events reflect UC San Diego’s “Getting to Zero” theme which conveys the global community effort needed to achieve zero new HIV infections, zero stigma against those living with HIV/AIDS and zero AIDS-related deaths.

UC San Diego Guarantees a Pathway for Transfer Students with UniversityLink

The University of California, San Diego has updated its UniversityLink program, providing guaranteed admission for eligible local students to encourage them to attend UC San Diego. The initiative seeks to increase the number of students who transfer to UC San Diego from participating community colleges in the San Diego and Imperial counties.

New Resource Center Salutes Veterans’ Service

Richard Gilbert is a student veteran at UC San Diego who was deployed twice to Iraq as a sniper in the U.S. Marine Corps. On his second deployment, he was wounded and placed in the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Balboa Naval Hospital. After being medically retired from the Marine Corps, Gilbert took classes at Mesa Community College and eventually transferred to UC San Diego where he served as president of the Student Veteran Organization for two years.

UC San Diego Dedicates Student Veterans Resource Center Nov. 7

The University of California, San Diego will salute current and retired military service men and women from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 with the dedication of the campus’s new Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) and the awarding of the 14th annual Veteran of the Year presented by the UC San Diego Veterans Association. The event, which will commemorate Veterans Day, is free and open to the public and will take place on the west side of the UC San Diego Student Center.
