Times Higher Education has placed the University of California, San Diego as the 40th top university in the publication’s World Reputation Rankings. The Reputation Rankings complement the Times’ annual World University Rankings, published in fall 2013, in which UC San Diego was also ranked 40th.
The 2014 rankings are based on a survey carried out between March and May of 2013, which received 10,536 responses from senior, published scholars from 133 countries. According to the Times Higher Education, the World Reputation Rankings employ the largest global invitation-only academic opinion survey to provide the definitive list of the top 100 most powerful global university brands.
“UC San Diego is an academic powerhouse, consistently recognized as a leading institution by organizations such as Times Higher Education,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “This global ranking, based on input from senior published scholars, is testament to the university’s influence and impact.”
To help elicit meaningful responses to the Times’ survey, respondents are asked “action-based” questions, such as: “Which university would you send your most talented graduates to for the best postgraduate supervision?”
The survey data were used alongside 11 objective indicators to help create the World University Rankings 2013-2014, which were unveiled in October last year.
