The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded UC San Diego’s Sexual Assault & Violence Prevention Resource Center (SARC) a $300,000 grant to help improve education and enhance services on sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. SARC was established as a campus resource more than 25 years ago.

Approximately 31,000 UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students are coming back to school Oct. 2 to begin fall quarter. The class includes an estimated 4,900 incoming freshmen and 2,400 new transfer students.

The University of California, San Diego been named among the best colleges for food in the United States, according to the Daily Meal website, which nationally covers food and drink topics. UC San Diego came in 19th place in the website’s list of the “75 Best Colleges for Food in America.”

The University of California, San Diego has been ranked the 20th best university in the world by the Center for the World University Rankings (CWUR) which measures universities’ quality of research, faculty, influence, enterprise and successful alumni.

Both Patricia Campbell and Christy Rodriguez began their UC San Diego academic careers in 1967 as part of Muir College’s first undergraduate class. After years of developing their careers and taking care of their families, the two, coincidentally, will be among the 7,045 graduating students participating in campus’s commencement ceremonies June 14-16.

Results from a cross-border collaborative research effort studying employment and industries of the San Diego and Imperial counties as well as Baja California––which together make up the CaliBaja region––provides evidence of the region’s importance as a hub for manufacturing, with particular strengths in industry sectors like audio and video equipment manufacturing, and medical device and supplies manufacturing.

Kathia Cortez, of Imperial Valley, and her twin brother Martin, will both be attending UC San Diego this fall as the first in their family to attend a four-year university, a dream realized because of the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program.
