Community Eager for UC San Diego Events Featuring the Dalai Lama

Last October, leadership at the University of California, San Diego—thrilled that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama had accepted the campus’ invitation to be the keynote speaker at the 2017 commencement—were told by the Friends of the Dalai Lama Foundation that “all of this is bigger than anyone can imagine.” This is big: the Dalai Lama is one of the most recognized and respected individuals in the world.

Lama Tenzin Dhonden the Personal Emissary for Peace to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, today announced that the exiled spiritual head and leader of the Tibetan people will offer the keynote address at the invitation-only UC San Diego All Campus Commencement June17, 2017. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will also speak June 16 at a second event, which will be open to the public. This will be his first 2017 U. S. tour stop.

Lucy Killea, Political Pioneer and UC San Diego Alumna, Dies at 94

Former San Diego city councilwoman, assemblywoman and state senator Lucy Killea has died at the age of 94. She was an icon in the political world, and a respected mentor to women. The many worlds of Killea—U.S. foreign relations, state and local government, community leadership—all intersected in her doctoral degree from the University of California San Diego.
