August 25, 2015 — ArtPower, a multi-arts presenter at the University of California, San Diego, will offer six distinctive series in its upcoming season: chamber music, film, innovation, dance, global music and jazz. The season includes the return of audience favorites, such as the Calder Quartet and David Sedaris, as well as global artists making their San Diego debut.

August 25, 2015 — The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center at the University of California, San Diego will host Q Camp on September 23, a day-long program for incoming LGBT freshman, transfer and graduate students as well as returning students who are newly out. The goal is to introduce students to LGBT life on campus as well as resources that support equity, diversity and inclusion.

August 24, 2015 — For the sixth consecutive year, the University of California, San Diego has been ranked the number one university in the nation by Washington Monthly for its contributions to the public good. The magazine released its 2015 College Guide today, an annual issue that takes a different approach to ranking the nation’s colleges and universities.

August 17, 2015 — UC San Diego is ranked the 14th best university in the world for the third consecutive year, according to the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The rankings were recently released by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a public research university located in Shanghai, China, renowned as one of the oldest and most prestigious and selective universities in China. In addition, UC San Diego’s programs in life sciences, engineering, computer science, chemistry, and economics are ranked among the top 20 in the world. Nationally, UC San Diego is listed as the 12th best university.

August 17, 2015 — The University of California San Diego, Division of Arts and Humanities announces the appointment of acclaimed set designer Robert Brill as the newest faculty member in the top-ranked Theatre & Dance Department.

August 11, 2015 — UC San Diego has been named the 7th “Coolest School” by Sierra magazine, climbing 10 spots from last year in the publication’s annual ranking of America’s greenest colleges. The campus was recognized for its commitment to protecting the environment, reducing water use significantly, addressing climate issues and encouraging environmental responsibility.

August 5, 2015 — The mystartupXX accelerator program, a collaboration of the California Institute for Innovation and Development at the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego and the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, has been chosen for a second time as one of the winners of the national Growth Accelerator Fund competition and recipient of a $50,000 award from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

July 30, 2015 — When University of California, San Diego alumnus and biotechnology pioneer David Goeddel, ’72, pledged a gift of $400,000 to establish the David V. Goeddel Endowed Graduate Fellowship at UC San Diego, his goal was to support and foster the innovators and scientists of the future. The endowed fund, which will be matched in full by the UC San Diego Division of Biological Sciences, will annually support the research and scholarly activities of outstanding Biological Sciences graduate students. The inaugural Goeddel fellowship recipients will use the funding to bolster leading-edge research focused on topics ranging from finding better treatments for diseases such as Parkinson’s, to understanding the metabolism of cells in tissues and organs, to studying cyanobacteria as a bio-production platform for renewable fuels.

July 23, 2015 — Dr. Seuss fans will not want to miss a book launch on Tuesday, July 28 in UC San Diego’s Geisel Library, to celebrate the release of the new Dr. Seuss book, What Pet Should I Get?. At the event, the UC San Diego Bookstore will be selling a limited number of copies of the new book, which will be released publicly by Random House on July 28.

July 20, 2015 — New rankings name the University of California, San Diego the fourth best public university in the U.S. and the 21st best university in the world. The rankings by the Center for the World University Rankings (CWUR) are based on quality of research, faculty, influence, enterprise and successful alumni.
