In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 6, more than 3,000 members of the UC San Diego community will gather in support of student scholarships by participating in the 19th annual Triton 5K and Festival. Over the years, the 5K has raised more than $3.9 million in scholarships benefiting more than 1,000 deserving students.

“I was thinking how appropriate this name, The Basement, is,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla at the Feb. 6 launch of the campus’s new incubator/accelerator program for student entrepreneurs. “You think about companies that started in a garage or started in a basement—and that’s the whole idea. We want to create a space for our students where they can not only grow, but where we actively nurture them, and nurture their good ideas.”

The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has awarded UC San Diego’s Alumni and Community Engagement department nine awards – including five gold awards – in the 2014 CASE District VII Awards of Excellence, recognizing best practices at educational institutions in the western United States.
