The University of California San Diego is named the 35th best university in the world, according to Times Higher Education which released its World Reputation Rankings today. The campus moved up five spots compared to last year’s list.

Sandeep Prabhu, a student at UC San Diego’s School of Medicine, lived in South India as a child where he witnessed firsthand the issues communities face when they have poor access to health care. His desire to help such communities inspired Prabhu to study medicine and spearhead an initiative that aims to save the lives of thousands of women who give birth outside institutional settings and often die en route to a clinic due to excessive blood loss.

The University of California, San Diego has been ranked 14th nationally among large schools on the 2016 Peace Corps list of colleges and universities that produce the most Peace Corps Volunteers, moving up one spot from last year. This marks the sixth consecutive year that UC San Diego has been named in the organization’s top 15 rankings and the 10th straight year that the campus has appeared in the top 25.

UC San Diego will honor African-American history with events throughout February, including art exhibits, lectures, film screenings, spoken word performances and the annual Black History Month Scholarship Brunch. The Feb. 27 brunch will feature renowned filmmaker, actor and activist Danny Glover as the special guest speaker.
