Homeless and Hunger Awareness Week at UC San Diego Empowers Students to Help Needy

As soon as Stephany Gonzalez enrolled at UC San Diego, she decided to volunteer at the campus’s food pantry. Her service was a thank you to her parents, who had to deal with food insecurity before emigrating from Guatemala to the United States, where they raised Stephany and her sister and encouraged them to pursue their college dreams.

Campus to Celebrate Inaugural Veterans Week Nov. 6 to 9

UC San Diego is launching its inaugural Veterans Week Nov. 6 to 9 to express gratitude towards men and women in the armed forces for their sacrifices and service to our country. The weeklong activities for the XXX campus veterans and military-affiliated students will include the annual Veterans Recognition Ceremony Nov. 8, a city-wide job and resource fair Nov. 7, a clothing drive, volunteer service and more.

U.S. News and World Report Names UC San Diego the Globe’s 16th Best University

The University of California San Diego has been named the globe’s 16th best university by U.S. News and World Report. The campus was also recognized as the nation’s 5th best public university in the fourth annual rankings, which measure factors such as research, global and regional reputation; international collaboration; as well as the number of highly-cited papers and doctorates awarded.

UC San Diego’s Energy Conservation Efforts Win Top Prize in National Freezer Contest

The University of California San Diego’s commitment to reducing energy use recently garnered the campus a first place award in the North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge. The nationwide best practice competition encourages laboratories to reduce the environmental and financial costs of ultra-low temperature freezers.

Putting Students First

With the start of fall quarter on Sept. 28, UC San Diego is unveiling a number of initiatives and programs that will enhance the student experience, including new graduate student housing, degree programs, arcades, eateries and more. In addition, the campus is rolling out new traditions such as Changemaker Day on Oct. 25, which will support student social entrepreneurs to benefit the campus and surrounding communities.

UC San Diego Unveils Mesa Nueva: One of the Nation’s Largest Graduate Housing Communities

The University of California San Diego’s newest housing project, Mesa Nueva, was recently completed and graduate and professional students have begun moving in for the start of fall quarter, Sept. 28. With the addition of 1,350 new beds, the residential community is one of the largest graduate and professional student housing programs in the University of California system and one of the biggest in the country.

UC San Diego Ranked a Top 10 Public University by U.S. News & World Report

The U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges guidebook ranks the University of California San Diego the nation’s 9th best public university, up one spot, compared to last year. For more than a decade, the publication has included UC San Diego in its list of the nation’s top 10 public universities.

Times Higher Education Ranks UC San Diego Fifth Best Public University in the World

UC San Diego has netted the No. 4 spot in the Times Higher Education list of the globe’s best public universities. The campus was named 31st overall among universities worldwide and the nation’s 20th best college based on quality of teaching, knowledge transfer, international outlook and research influence.

Washington Monthly Recognizes UC San Diego as a Top Five U.S. University

Washington Monthly has named the University of California San Diego the second best public university in the U.S. for promoting upward social mobility, producing groundbreaking research and serving the nation’s public interest. The national magazine’s annual rankings recognize what universities are doing for the public good and have consistently rated UC San Diego among the country’s best colleges for over a decade.

Prestigious Rankings Name UC San Diego 15th Best University in the World

The University of California San Diego has been ranked the 15th best university in the world by the 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). UC San Diego was also named the world’s third best public college. The campus was named the world’s fourth best public college and nationally, UC San Diego was recognized as the country’s 13th best university.
