More than 100 UC San Diego Health physicians in 48 specialties have been named “Top Docs” in the 2021 San Diego Magazine “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” survey.
UC San Diego Director of Communications for Biological Sciences Mario Aguilera has received the National Association of Sciences Writers (NASW) 2021 Excellence in Institutional Writing Award.
Awardees of the Chancellor’s Medal, one of the highest honors given by UC San Diego to recognize exceptional service in support of the campus’s mission, include: Phyllis and Dan Epstein, Hanna and Mark Gleiberman, Gaby and Richard Sulpizio, and Patricia and Christopher Weil.

Biological Sciences Associate Professor Elizabeth Villa has been selected as a 2021 Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigator. As one of 33 scientists chosen out of pool of more than 800, Villa will receive $9 million over a seven-year HHMI Investigator term.
