The University of California, San Diego Moores Cancer Center will host the 8th annual Survivor Beach on Sunday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in Mission Bay. The event will culminate Cancer Survivor Week, a week-long series of annual special events hosted by Moores Cancer Center. Survivor Beach will feature a beach festival, barbeque, live music, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) competitions for all skill levels and ages, and a paddle out for cancer survivors. Hundreds of community members are expected to gather for the day-long event in solidarity with and celebration of survivors and their caregivers.

When Brayden Burge was 15 months old, his parents noticed a significant drop in his skills and a sudden increase in illness. Brayden was taken to the University of California, San Diego Health System and diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.
The University of California, San Diego has admitted 24,552 freshmen for the fall 2014 term. The new freshmen were selected from a record 73,437 applications. The university anticipates enrolling a diverse freshman class of 4,900 of students.

For Jonathan Wosen, his love of science blossomed when he attended The Preuss School UCSD, a charter middle and high school for motivated, low-income students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college. Inspired by his teachers and the challenging, yet fun, classes, he became an active member of the Science Bowl and Lego Robotics teams in addition to other activities. He graduated from Preuss as co-valedictorian in 2009 and went on to receive his undergraduate degree in biology with a concentration in biochemistry and molecular biology from Williams College.
