Two educators from The Preuss School UCSD will travel to one of the U.S. Army’s premier leadership training institutions this week to take part in the inaugural National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and U.S. Army Leadership and Professional Development Symposium. Principal Scott Barton and athletic director Lisa Hawk are two of 30 school leaders from around the country who will participate in this unique opportunity.

Over the years, Transportation Services has played a significant role in transforming UC San Diego into an award-winning campus for sustainability. The percentage of campus commuters using alternative transportation has increased from 34 to an impressive 59 percent in just the last 10 years. As a result, Transportation Services’ costs for funding transit and shuttle programs have dramatically increased over the past several years, while incoming revenue from parking has decreased.

For the second year in a row, UC San Diego’s Hazardous Material Response Team has won the right to call itself the best in the county. The team competed and triumphed recently in the “Hazcat,” an annual competition hosted by the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health’s Hazardous Materials Division.

The Preuss School UCSD was named one of the top five charter high schools in California in a report developed to strengthen accountability among the state’s charter schools. The seventh-annual USC School Performance Dashboard includes for the first time Top 10 lists for charter schools at both the elementary/middle school and high school levels.

When the Preuss School UCSD opened its doors on the UC San Diego campus in 1999, no one knew it would become a national phenomenon. From the donors whose generosity literally built the school to the teachers, students and parents who took a chance to be part of an educational experiment, everyone involved believed in the vision for the school. But none of them knew that Preuss would achieve the level of success that it has achieved today.
