The Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center is expanding its groundbreaking, partner-based automotive safety initiative with the launch of seven new research programs undertaken in partnership with 11 leading research institutions from across North America, including the University of California, San Diego.
Four leading scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego have been honored with awards that recognize their accomplishments in their respective fields of study.
More than one hundred physicians from University of California, San Diego Health System were named “Top Docs” in the 2012 San Diego Magazine “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” annual survey. In a study at the University of California, San Diego and VA San Diego Healthcare, researchers were able to regenerate “an astonishing degree” of axonal growth at the site of severe spinal cord injury in rats. Their research revealed that early stage neurons have the ability to survive and extend axons to form new, functional neuronal relays across an injury site in the adult central nervous system (CNS).
