Staff Members Honored for Advancing the Greater Good

Her enthusiasm for all things “green” is infectious. Jennifer Bowser is known for her talent in activating teams to inspire sustainability efforts at UC San Diego and share knowledge about how to preserve our natural world. As Sustainability Program Coordinator, she goes above and beyond to engage students as peer education leaders and brings to life innovative projects that have contributed to UC San Diego’s reputation as one of the greenest campuses in the country.

UC San Diego Recognizes 2017 Sustainability Award Recipients

The UC San Diego 2017 Sustainability Awards recognized individuals and groups that have made the campus more sustainable. Six recipients were honored for their efforts to share information about and prioritize sustainability in UC San Diego’s education, research, planning, and operations and outreach programs.

Student-Run Free Clinic Project at UC San Diego Honored by American Psychiatric Association

On Sunday, May 21, the Student Run Free Clinic Project at UC San Diego was recognized by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) for excellence in caring for the community. For two decades, the Student-Run Free Clinic Project has helped people of all ages and circumstances access high-quality health care, regardless of their ability to pay. The project assists community members with a range of critical health services, including psychiatric care.

Trailblazing Tritons: Notable Alumni Forge Diverse Paths

A writer makes us laugh until we cry. Two doctors save thousands of lives around the globe. A mathematician harnesses the power of big data to help shape public policy. A visual artist strips away stereotypes of race, gender and socioeconomics. Who are these pioneers? They’re Tritons—esteemed graduates of UC San Diego. And June 8-11, they will be honored during our Alumni Weekend on campus.

UC San Diego Awards Campus Champions of Integrity

On April 19, one department and 11 members of the UC San Diego community were recognized at the 7th Annual Integrity Awards Ceremony for their contributions to academic, research and professional integrity on campus. The awards were hosted by the Academic Integrity Office and Research Ethics Program to honor our university’s commitment to uphold the six pillars of integrity—responsibility, honesty, fairness, respect, trustworthiness and courage.

UC San Diego Professor Recognized as One of World’s Most Influential Living Philosopher

Asking questions is a matter of course for UC San Diego Philosopher Nancy Cartwright. Her queries include, “What makes something evidence for something else?” and “Does policy work define outcomes?” For her deep-thought work that “fills in gaps,” as she explains, Cartwright is recognized as one of the world’s most influential living philosophers according to The Best Schools, the University of Edinburgh, and others. But when asked how it feels to be among the world’s leading thinkers, Cartwright states: “If I thought it was true, it would be really great.”
