Brian E. C. Schottlaender, The Audrey Geisel University Librarian at the University of California, San Diego, has been named the 2015 winner of the American Library Association’s Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. Schottlaender, will receive a cash award and citation during the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco this June.

Cristina Della Coletta, a professor of Italian literature, is the new dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego. A doctoral alumna of UCLA, Della Coletta was on the faculty at the University of Virginia from 1992 to 2014, serving there most recently as an associate dean.

A longtime member of the UC San Diego community – first as a graduate student, then as a faculty member and, most recently, as an administrator too – Carol Padden is a MacArthur “Genius” Award-winning scholar of sign languages. She was named the division’s fourth dean in June 2014, after an extensive national search. Her appointment began Oct. 1.
