Based on the gaps in response to infectious disease threats underlined by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded $17.5 million to a coalition led by researchers at UC San Diego to develop innovative tools and networks to respond rapidly to emerging disease outbreaks in the future. The campus was abuzz over the weekend with the arrival of Tritons ready to begin a new academic year. Computer science Ph.D. student Emma Hogan is promoting access to higher education by teaching introductory programming to incarcerated people in San Diego.
