The grant will fund two workshops and supporting materials that explore how to advance scholarly communication in a world where scholarship goes beyond written text to include software code, workflows, data and databases.

UC San Diego’s 10th annual California Native American Day celebration kicked off Friday with an opening ceremony featuring a blessing, traditional bird singing and creation story workshop. Sixth College freshman Breanna Allen is a San Diego native who is the first in her family to attend college. Over the summer, Allen prepared for the start of fall quarter at UC San Diego by taking part in the Triton Community Leadership Institute, a three-day residential program geared toward incoming first-generation college students that helps them navigate the university prior to the beginning of the school year.
For Matt Leslie, a doctoral student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, science communication is a passion. Leslie studies whales and dolphins, trying to understand species diversity and how to improve conservation efforts for these populations.
