On Saturday, May 3, the UC San Diego Bookstore will host a special celebration as part of the inaugural California Bookstore Day to recognize book lovers of all ages and engage the campus and local community in literary-themed fun.
Last quarter, Shaila Bonanno graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in human biology and aspirations to pursue medical school. Before she begins her medical training, however, Bonanno is taking a gap year to pursue another passion: teaching. She applied to and has been accepted to serve with City Year, an AmeriCorps program that partners with public schools in high-need communities to help keep students in school and on track to graduation.
New York Times bestselling author and physicist David Brin, angel investor and Red Cross instructor Kai Chang and Miss California 2013 Crystal Lee are among the speakers selected to present at the 2014 TEDxUCSD. Now in its second year, the on-campus event will bring together 15 leading thinkers and doers from across multiple fields—many of whom are affiliated with UC San Diego—to engage the campus community with “ideas worth spreading.”
