Attorney E. Randol Schoenberg was able to accomplish what few thought was possible— He recovered Gustav Klimt’s famous “Golden Lady” painting, which was stolen by the Nazis in 1938. Schoenberg’s experiences are the subject of a newly released movie, Woman in Gold, which he will discuss at the May 6 Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLHW) event, sponsored by Phyllis and Daniel Epstein. HLWH is a collaboration between the UC San Diego Library and the Jewish Studies program.
The University of California, San Diego will recognize Earth Week, April 19-25 with festivities which will include a trash sort, Earth Day fair, walking tours of campus sustainability initiatives and more. This year’s celebration is particularly important, as campus community members have a special call to action: Conserve water.
An upcoming exhibition at the University of California, San Diego’s Qualcomm Institute will showcase art works derived from large-scale laser scans of buildings, landscapes and the environment. Autonomous Sensing ScanLAB opens April 16 in Atkinson Hall’s gallery@calit2, with a 5pm panel discussion with speakers Thomas Pearce and Matthew Shaw from the UK-based ScanLAB, whose 3D LIDAR scans form the basis of the art works on display. The panel will be followed by a reception and official opening to the public.
Burrowing mice and how such animal behavior can shed light on the genetics of human behavior will be the subject of the 10th Richard H. and Glenda G. Rosenblatt Lectureship in Evolutionary Biology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 6, more than 3,000 members of the UC San Diego community will gather in support of student scholarships by participating in the 19th annual Triton 5K and Festival. Over the years, the 5K has raised more than $3.9 million in scholarships benefiting more than 1,000 deserving students.
