The first unofficial Women’s Resource Center was small but mighty. Established April 5, 1974, it was located in the Muir College “fishbowl,” a small student-run space where women could find a comfy couch to sink into with a cup of coffee and freedom to talk openly.
Americans spend an average of four hours per day listening to audio either on headphones or on speakers, but there are major differences in the psychological effects between the two mediums. Headphones have a much more powerful impact on listeners’ perceptions, judgments and behaviors.
What is allyship? It is an opportunity to re-evaluate personal beliefs through listening; taking action to dismantle systems of oppression; and consistently working together to advance equity for those who are disempowered. Allyship was the central theme of last week’s Triton Leaders Conference.

There are many ways to be an ally, and at the upcoming Triton Leaders Conference, UC San Diego invites attendees to continue advancing this work to build a more equitable and inclusive world.
