Public Lecture Dives into Ocean Turbulence and Climate

Raffaele Ferrari, a Scripps/UC San Diego alumnus and a professor of oceanography at MIT will present the Cody Award public lecture at 3 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2016, in the Robert Paine Scripps Forum for Science, Society and the Environment (Scripps Seaside Forum), 8610 Kennel Way in La Jolla, Calif. Admission is free (seating is available on a limited basis) for the lecture, “The Role of Ocean Turbulence in Climate.”

Landmark National Study of Adolescent Brain Now Underway

The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study – by the National Institutes of Health, with leadership from the University of California San Diego – aims to change that. The largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States is now underway.

The magazine released its annual rankings today measuring social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (preparing undergraduates for graduate school as well as discovering new technologies and creating ideas) and service (encouraging students to give back to their country).
