Raffaele Ferrari, a Scripps/UC San Diego alumnus and a professor of oceanography at MIT will present the Cody Award public lecture at 3 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2016, in the Robert Paine Scripps Forum for Science, Society and the Environment (Scripps Seaside Forum), 8610 Kennel Way in La Jolla, Calif. Admission is free (seating is available on a limited basis) for the lecture, “The Role of Ocean Turbulence in Climate.”

The Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLWH) at the University of California San Diego kicks off a year-long series of educational events with two compelling programs this fall, underscoring this year’s theme “Holocaust and the Burden of History.” The 2016-17 workshop events will approach the Holocaust from various angles to shed light on lesser-known aspects of the atrocities committed.

If you’ve lived through your own or your kids’ adolescence, you know it’s an extraordinary time. Yet researchers know comparatively little about the teenage brain. The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study – by the National Institutes of Health, with leadership from the University of California San Diego – aims to change that. The largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States is now underway.

The University of California San Diego has been ranked the number one public university in the nation for serving the public interest for the seventh consecutive year by Washington Monthly. The magazine released its annual rankings today measuring social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (preparing undergraduates for graduate school as well as discovering new technologies and creating ideas) and service (encouraging students to give back to their country).
