Innovative Researchers Share Ground-breaking Research with Packed House at Founders’ Symposium

It’s not often you can go to an event and be asked to leave your cell phone on to share thoughts via social media. At the Founders’ Symposium held Friday, however, that was exactly the case. Event moderator and UC San Diego alumna Lauren Reynolds ’94 encouraged the audience to interact on Twitter (#UCSDFounders) during the event.

UC San Diego’s Brightest to Share Groundbreaking Ideas at Founders’ Symposium

An annual tradition at UC San Diego’s Founders’ Day celebration is to showcase our faculty as they share groundbreaking ideas and the inspiration for what they do. On Friday, Nov. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rady School of Management, six dynamic speakers will each offer an informal ten-minute talk about research happening at UC San Diego that has real impact on everyday life.

Despite increasing state budget cuts, UC San Diego has made the list for the last 10 years, due in part to scholarships and fellowships funded by the investment of generous donors.

W.M. Keck Foundation Awards $1 Million to UC San Diego Researchers Studying Pioneering Breakthrough

At the University of California, San Diego, two University of California, San Diego scientists have received a $1 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to fund research into exploring a molecular approach to delivering drugs into cells that could change the pharmaceutical industry worldwide. The W.M. Keck Foundation of Los Angeles supports “high risk/high reward” pioneering discoveries in groundbreaking studies that enable researchers to translate their innovative ideas into real world impact.

UC San Diego Appoints Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Following a comprehensive nationwide search, today the University of California Regents approved the appointment of Linda S. Greene as UC San Diego’s first Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (VC-EDI). She will report to Suresh Subramani, Executive Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs, with an indirect reporting relationship to Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla.

Former UC San Diego Foundation Chair and Wife Endow $4 Million Fellowship Fund

Jerome and Miriam Katzin have endowed a $4 million fellowship fund to support UC San Diego graduate students. UC San Diego’s more than 5,000 graduate students raise the caliber of the university’s work by advancing groundbreaking discoveries, driving innovation, and generating new knowledge and leadership that will make a difference locally, nationally and around the globe. The Katzins hope that their gift will also inspire others to support graduate education at UC San Diego.
