The convenient in-house training program is designed for companies of all sizes and for employees of all organizational levels.

A network of 25 nationally recognized stroke centers has been created to rapidly address the three core features of stroke research and care: prevention, treatment and recovery. The regional coordinating centers (RCCs), working with nearby satellite facilities, will span the country and have teams of researchers representing every stroke-related medical specialty, with the primary goal of bringing new therapies and strategies to the stroke community more rapidly.

Neurosurgeons at UC San Diego Health System are using a new approach to visualize the brain’s delicate anatomy prior to surgery. The novel technique allows neurosurgeons to see the brain’s nerve connections thus preserving and protecting critical functions such as vision, speech and memory. No needles, dyes or chemicals are needed to create the radiology scan.

A steel beam, painted white and graced by a living evergreen tree, an American flag, and dozens of signatures and messages, swung across a blue sky and into place atop the superstructure of UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center Thursday. The final beam marked the midpoint between groundbreaking and completion—and a huge milestone for UC San Diego. The special event was “topped out” with a surprise announcement from Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla.

Today, UC San Diego celebrates the “topping out” of UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center, a new state-of-the-art facility that will transform health care in California. Slated for completion in 2016, Jacobs Medical Center, a technology-rich, 10-story facility, is currently the largest hospital project in Southern California, and one that is destined to change the face of health care in San Diego. The $839 million facility is part of a multi-billion dollar university investment in the future of health care for the region.

Surgeons at UC San Diego Health System have performed their 3,000th pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE), a lifesaving surgery to clear the lung’s arteries of scar-like tissue that robs patients of their ability to breathe.

Surgeons at UC San Diego Health System have performed the region’s first robotic gastrectomy, a potentially lifesaving procedure to remove a section of the stomach after a diagnosis of gastric cancer. Aided by a da Vinci robot, surgeons remove the diseased tissue, perform a delicate reconstruction and remove local lymph nodes for further testing.

Surgeons at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine are evaluating a new, combined surgery technique to remove cancerous tumors from the rectum. The hybrid technique uses the body’s natural opening to remove malignancies and diseased tissue while also performing reconstruction.
