The New York Times has named the University of California, San Diego the nation’s No. 4 school in its College Access Index, measuring which colleges and universities do the most for low-income students.

The University of California, San Diego is ranked the 9th best public university in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 Best Colleges guidebook, which was released today. In addition, UC San Diego is named the 39th best university in the U.S. among more than 200 public, private and for-profit institutions.

UC San Diego, ranks for the first time among the schools contributing the most graduates to Teach For America, debuting at no. 12on the list of contributing schools and universities released today by the national nonprofit organization. The graduates who join Teach For America commit to teaching for at least two years in under-resourced schools and become lifelong leaders in the pursuit of educational equity.

For the sixth consecutive year, the University of California, San Diego has been ranked the number one university in the nation by Washington Monthly for its contributions to the public good. The magazine released its 2015 College Guide today, an annual issue that takes a different approach to ranking the nation’s colleges and universities.

Elizabeth Keenan, of Escondido, Calif., just graduated from the Rady School of Management with a Ph.D. in management with a specialization in behavioral marketing and is one of the first students to receive a doctoral degree from Rady.

The Policy Design and Evaluation Lab (PDEL), based at the University of California, San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS), announced today that it is a Grand Challenges Explorations winner, an initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. PDEL faculty affiliates Claire Adida, assistant professor of political science in the UC San Diego Division of Social Sciences, and Jennifer Burney, assistant professor at GPS, will pursue an innovative global health and development research project titled “Mobile Money, Schooling, and the Poor.”
