A Lifesaving Stroke Treatment
Health & BehaviorBefore the early 1990’s, there were no treatments for stroke, but from 1991 to 1995, UC San Diego researchers helped lead the world’s first large-scale clinical trial to test tPA, a drug that dissolves blood clots, in people having a stroke. That drug went on to become the gold standard in stroke care, still used by hospitals today.
