When composer Anthony Davis began creating an opera based on the 1989 case of five black and Latino men falsely convicted of a horrific crime in New York City—famously dubbed the Central Park Five—winning a Pulitzer Prize was the furthest thing from his mind.
UC San Diego made history Thursday, breaking ground on a transformational project that will become the hub for the campus’ design and innovation initiatives while also serving as an inviting new entrance for the community—inviting visitors to look deeper into one of the world’s top public research universities.
Multidisciplinary issues need multidisciplinary solutions. That's biology major and visual arts minor Anika Ullah's mantra. Ullah believes that when put together, visual media, science and community engagement can serve as powerful tools for gaining insight into current health-related issues, shaping scientific study design and increasing public agency-and she's dedicated her undergraduate career to three local, binational and global projects that accomplish that aim.
