The impact HIV/AIDS has had and continues to have in the San Diego community and beyond is the center of the University of California, San Diego’s recognition of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1. The campus will sponsor a number of events throughout the day, including a display of sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the Price Center Ballroom East from noon until 9 p.m. Other events on World AIDS Day, which was established in 1988 and is held on Dec. 1 each year, include a presentation on the HIV prevention pill Truvada, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), artistic performances, stories from young people living with HIV and more.

Now, The Judith and Neil Morgan Endowed Fellowship at UC San Diego will carry forth their spirit of civic engagement, passion for writing and love of learning and discourse by supporting exceptional graduate students in the humanities and social sciences.

UC San Diego Department of Literature Professor Daisuke Miyao is interested in silent era films, but he also appreciates the connections between early films and modern cinema. His interests inspired him to invite Kuji Yoshida, a legendary figure of postwar Japanese cinema, with films famous in the 1960s, to UC San Diego Nov. 10, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Price Center West Ballroom.

Four undergraduate students at the University of California, San Diego have been awarded the 2015 Undergraduate Library Research Prize in recognition of their superior research skills. The annual award, sponsored by the UC San Diego Library, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and the UCSD Alumni Association, recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary research skills in mining the Library’s rich and diverse information resources and services.
