How can we alleviate poverty? What policies can be implemented to promote health, welfare and security? The University of California, San Diego is helping to answer these questions with the launch of a new lab designed to find innovative solutions, utilizing information technology, to help address the most pressing issues around the globe.

Anne Artz, a teacher at The Preuss School UCSD, has been selected as one of only 27 K-12 educators nationwide to be a Congressional Fellow for the 2013-2014 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program, where she will serve for an academic year as a representative and promoter for STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math). The program is coordinated by the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. that advocates and supports STEM programming in schools.
Five University of California, San Diego scientists and professors are among the first class of the Fellows of the American Association for Cancer Research Academy, created to recognize researchers whose scientific contributions have propelled significant innovation and progress against cancer. The entire class consists of 106 individuals, to celebrate the 106 year anniversary of AACR, the world’s first and largest professional organization dedicated to advancing cancer research.
The Preuss School UCSD was honored with the Local Peacemaker Award by the National Conflict and Resolution Center (NCRC), a San Diego-based nonprofit organization specializing in alternative conflict resolution services, mediation training and credentialing. The Preuss School was honored during NCRC’s 25th annual Peacemaker Awards, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their creative and effective collaborations and solutions to crises and conflict.
