Christopher J. Kane, M.D., a renowned specialist in prostate cancer and an expert in robotic and other minimally invasive procedures for urologic surgery at the University of California, San Diego, has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Joseph D. Schmidt, MD Presidential Chair in Urology in the School of Medicine.
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of California, San Diego, has appointed Karen R. Flammer as Director of Education at SDSC, succeeding Diane Baxter, who officially retires on November 30. Flammer officially began her new role on October 1.

Four undergraduate students at the University of California, San Diego have been awarded the 2015 Undergraduate Library Research Prize in recognition of their superior research skills. Steve Gallagher, a financial management and facilities operations executive with experience at several scientific organizations, has been selected to serve as assistant vice chancellor for finance and operations at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. Gallagher’s career for the past 28 years has included a number of roles in management and program leadership, most recently at NOAA.
