A visual artist strips away stereotypes of race, gender and socioeconomics. Who are these pioneers? They’re Tritons—esteemed graduates of UC San Diego. And June 8-11, they will be honored during our Alumni Weekend on campus.
On April 19, one department and 11 members of the UC San Diego community were recognized at the 7th Annual Integrity Awards Ceremony for their contributions to academic, research and professional integrity on campus. The awards were hosted by the Academic Integrity Office and Research Ethics Program to honor our university’s commitment to uphold the six pillars of integrity—responsibility, honesty, fairness, respect, trustworthiness and courage.
Asking questions is a matter of course for UC San Diego Philosopher Nancy Cartwright. Her queries include, “What makes something evidence for something else?” and “Does policy work define outcomes?” For her deep-thought work that “fills in gaps,” as she explains, Cartwright is recognized as one of the world’s most influential living philosophers according to The Best Schools, the University of Edinburgh, and others. But when asked how it feels to be among the world’s leading thinkers, Cartwright states: “If I thought it was true, it would be really great.”
Scientists at the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego have contributed to a new study, published May 1 in in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that asks the question: are there any valuable products left in nature that we haven’t already discovered?
The Preuss School UCSD was named one of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” in The Washington Post’s annual rankings of how successfully schools challenge their students. Preuss – a charter middle and high school for low-income students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college – was ranked no. 1 in San Diego County, no. 7 in California and 65th nationally.
The U.S. National Academy of Sciences announced today the membership election of Christopher K. Glass, MD, PhD, professor in the Departments of Medicine and Cellular and Molecular Medicine at University of California San Diego School of Medicine.
