UC San Diego’s Sexual Assault & Violence Prevention Resource Center (SARC) has been successful in developing innovative and proactive violence prevention programs for the campus community. A new SARC program called “Who’s Checking You In/Out?” was recently launched reduce the risk of cyberstalking and increase online safety.
Fulfilling a promise to the local community, Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla returned to Southeast San Diego Thursday to convey how community feedback has helped shape UC San Diego’s strategic plan. Last year, UC San Diego hosted two Community Town Hall meetings to seek input about strengthening pathways to higher education for underserved students, increase the campus’s presence in South County, and meet the community’s economic and workforce needs. The feedback shaped the campus’s first strategic plan, which is nearly complete.
Fans of the whimsical collection of Dr. Seuss children’s books may one day be treated to new volumes in the wildly popular series. More than 1,500 new materials from the personal archive of author Theodor Seuss Geisel have been donated by Audrey Geisel to the UC San Diego Library, including a variety of unpublished projects, such as “Cat Ballooning,” “The Pet Shop,” “Bee Watches,” “How Welk Can You Spelk,” “The Clock Book,” and “Arabian Adventures.”

Through strategic recruiting—which helps the university realize its mission and vision for equality, diversity and inclusion—UC San Diego welcomes four new hires: Gerardo N. Arellano, director of the Raza Resource Centro; James Bond, coordinator of the Veterans Resource Center; John Jacinto Duca, director of development, campus initiatives/diversity; and Barney Wilson, director of strategic initiatives, admissions and enrollment services.
The 17th annual Heart of San Diego Gala, hosted by the University of California, San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, will pay tribute to philanthropist and renowned fashion designer Zandra Rhodes on March 1 at The US Grant Hotel. In addition, the gala will celebrate the memory of the late Duane Roth, former CEO of Connect and a long-time supporter of the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center who passed away last year. The event will include a cocktail reception, dinner and dancing.
Arts patrons and campus supporters will come together Sunday, April 6 for the University of California, San Diego’s annual Big Bang at ArtPower! fundraiser. Chaired by ArtPower! supporter Martha Dennis, the celebration includes a festive brunch and special performance by the Escher String Quartet. In addition, donors Joan Jordan Bernstein and Rita and Richard Atkinson will be recognized for their generosity, vision and leadership support. All proceeds will benefit the organization’s student engagement programs, with the goal of creating the ArtPower! Student Engagement Endowment Fund. The event is open to the public.
