‘The Legacy of Jonas Salk’ Exhibit on Display at Geisel Library

Fall 2015 marks the close of world-renowned scientist Jonas Salk’s centenary year. To mark the occasion, the UC San Diego Library is presenting “The Legacy of Jonas Salk,” an exhibition of materials from the Jonas Salk Papers, which will be on display in Geisel Library through January 10, 2016. The papers—which comprise more than 600 linear feet (or nearly 1000 boxes)—were donated to the Library’s Mandeville Special Collections in 2013 by Salk’s sons, Peter, Darrell, and Jonathan, all of whom—like their father—trained as physicians and are involved in medical and scientific activities.

UC San Diego Literature Professor Brings Famed Japanese Filmmaker to Campus

UC San Diego Department of Literature Professor Daisuke Miyao is interested in silent era films, but he also appreciates the connections between early films and modern cinema. His interests inspired him to invite Kuji Yoshida, a legendary figure of postwar Japanese cinema, with films famous in the 1960s, to UC San Diego Nov. 10, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Price Center West Ballroom.

UC Summit on Carbon and Climate Neutrality Seeks to Bend the Curve on Climate Change

University of California President Janet Napolitano, Gov. Jerry Brown, legislators, business leaders and UC’s top climate and energy experts will gather at UC San Diego for the UC Summit on Carbon and Climate Neutrality Oct. 26-27. The summit will explore UC’s groundbreaking research on climate change and deliver 10 scalable solutions for slowing climate change that can be applied to California, the nation and the world.

UC San Diego Officially Opens Alex G. Spanos Athletic Performance Center

UC San Diego officially opened its new Alex G. Spanos Athletic Performance Center Wednesday with several members of the Spanos family alongside many Triton student-athletes and coaches at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

‘Recapturing the Mexico Moment’

The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego presents a diverse lineup of policy, scholars and community leaders for its annual symposium, Mexico Moving Forward. Called “Recapturing the Mexico Moment,” this year’s all-day event will be held Friday, Oct. 30, culminating in a Dia de los Muertos celebration with decorated altars and a live mariachi band.
