Calit2 Celebrates 15 Years

The past and future of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) will converge on Dec. 7, 2015 as the institutes commemorates 15 years of innovation and world-class research in fields such as telecommunications, digital health and virtual reality.

UC San Diego to Commemorate World AIDS Day Dec. 1

The impact HIV/AIDS has had and continues to have in the San Diego community and beyond is the center of the University of California, San Diego’s recognition of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1. The campus will sponsor a number of events throughout the day, including a display of sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the Price Center Ballroom East from noon until 9 p.m. Other events on World AIDS Day, which was established in 1988 and is held on Dec. 1 each year, include a presentation on the HIV prevention pill Truvada, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), artistic performances, stories from young people living with HIV and more.

$1.25 Million Legacy Gift Boosts UC San Diego’s Department of Theatre and Dance

Such was the case during a recent visit to UC San Diego’s Department of Theatre and Dance by long-time educator and arts supporter Lois Chant. Her $1.25 million legacy gift will boost the department’s efforts to continue its top-ranked theater training program.

UC San Diego Literature Professor Brings Famed Japanese Filmmaker to Campus

UC San Diego Department of Literature Professor Daisuke Miyao is interested in silent era films, but he also appreciates the connections between early films and modern cinema. His interests inspired him to invite Kuji Yoshida, a legendary figure of postwar Japanese cinema, with films famous in the 1960s, to UC San Diego Nov. 10, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Price Center West Ballroom.

UC San Diego Visual Arts Partners with Museum of Contemporary Art to Host International Artists

For more than two decades the UC San Diego Department of Visual Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (MCASD) have joined forces as leaders in local contemporary art to present the Russell Lecture Series, a program established by the late arts patron and philanthropist Elizabeth “Betty” W. Russell.
