The National Data Service (NDS) – a U.S. consortium focused on helping scientists and researchers find, reuse, and publish data – has named Christine Kirkpatrick as its first executive director. The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UC San Diego will host a node in the Pacific Research Platform at this year’s International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC16), in Salt Lake City, Utah November 14-17. The aim is to achieve large data transfers over long-distance networks to the limits possible using single personal computers of the type that researchers may have in their labs in the near future.
