March 20, 2017 — Faced with a downturn in visitors, the San Diego History Center (SDHC) decided to take an innovative approach to boosting museum attendance – let visitors determine how much they wanted to pay for their visit. The museum’s “Give Forward” admissions program launched in October 2016 and, to date, has given it a significant boost in attendance. This fundamental shift in admissions was inspired by the research of Ayelet Gneezy and Uri Gneezy, faculty at the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego, and experts in charitable giving. Working with the Rady School professors, the museum determined the best way to increase admissions was to allow visitors to contribute based on their experience in the museum, instead of paying a set admissions fee. In addition, the museum highlights to visitors that admissions donations help pay for other people to visit in the future.

March 20, 2017 — Kyoto University of Japan, one of the University of California San Diego’s international partners, will open an office in San Diego in early April, both campuses have announced.

March 3, 2017 — UC San Diego Research Affairs –The Office of Innovation and Commercialization launches the first of an eighteen-month entrepreneurial seminar series, free and open to anyone at UC San Diego and the general public, including members of any other research institutions, Mar. 9.

February 24, 2017 — A faculty chair in innovation and entrepreneurship at UC San Diego was created through the University of California’s Presidential Match for Endowed Chairs to recruit and retain top-flight faculty

February 6, 2017 — Thanks to local and regional elected officials who helped assure passage of Assembly Bill 2664, the University of California San Diego has received $2.2 million from the UC system to help spur innovation and entrepreneurship on campus.

February 1, 2017 — SD Councilmember Barbara Bry and CEO of the web startup Classy will explore San Diego’s innovation economy during the inaugural IGNITE @ UC San Diego conference Feb. 22. Featured events include a look inside new ventures during a “startup crawl” and 3 pitch competitions. The free conference is open to community, students and entrepreneurs from Baja-Cali region.

January 12, 2017 — The next presentation in UC San Diego’s “Inside Innovation” series features Dr. Catriona Jamieson speaking on “Detection and Therapeutic Targeting of Cancer Stem Cell Evolution.” The free and public presentation will be held 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Roth Auditorium at the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine, 2880 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. A networking reception will follow.

December 8, 2016 — The innovation ecosystem at UC San Diego will open more opportunities for campus entrepreneurs with the launch of Accelerating Innovations to Market (AIM), an ambitious program that encourages graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, researchers and faculty to develop and commercialize their problem-solving ideas.

November 30, 2016 — Sponsored by the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System and UC San Diego, “So You Want To Be An Entrepreneur” will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, at Fuse Integration, 1425 E Street in downtown San Diego.
