Researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine have launched a phase Ib clinical trial to assess the safety and tolerability of cirmtuzumab, in combination with standard chemotherapy, to treat metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer that cannot be surgically removed.

Christopher Kane, MD, has been appointed dean of clinical affairs for UC San Diego School of Medicine and CEO of UC San Diego Health Physicians, effective July 15. The University of California San Diego has received a $12 million, four-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to expand the Metabolomics Workbench, a searchable, interactive repository of data for all research in the field of metabolomics—the study of the small molecules called metabolites that are found within cells and biological systems.

A prestigious new ranking has listed the University of California San Diego 15th among the world’s best universities for its award-winning faculty and alumni, as well as producing high-impact and prolific research. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released its new report of the best universities today, also naming UC San Diego 13th among U.S. colleges and fourth, among the country’s public universities.
