Winter GameFest Returns to UC San Diego in its 11th Year

Since its inception in 2005, the UC San Diego Winter GameFest has brought thousands of gaming enthusiasts to campus to battle it out in the fest’s myriad competitions. The largest student-run gaming festival on the West Coast, the Winter GameFest has evolved from a simple gaming tournament into a two-day celebration of entertainment and technology organized entirely by UC San Diego’s Sixth College Technology Committee. The GameFest returned to campus this year in its 11th iteration.

The University of California, San Diego has been named the 9th most LGBTQ-friendly university in the nation, according to a new 2015-2016 report. Affordable Colleges Online—a website that helps students and their families identify affordable, higher educational opportunities—recently released a list of the top 23 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning (LGBTQ) friendly universities.

UC San Diego Welcomes New and Returning Students for Start of Fall Quarter

Sixth College freshman Breanna Allen is a San Diego native who is the first in her family to attend college. Over the summer, Allen prepared for the start of fall quarter at UC San Diego by taking part in the Triton Community Leadership Institute, a three-day residential program geared toward incoming first-generation college students that helps them navigate the university prior to the beginning of the school year.

UC San Diego Undergraduate Awarded National Barry Goldwater Scholarship

University of California, San Diego undergraduate Angela Zou has been awarded the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most competitive and prestigious awards in the nation. From a field of 1,206 applicants, Zou was one of 260 students to receive the scholarship, and the only recipient from UC San Diego.
