October 5, 2017 — The Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLWH) at the University of California San Diego once again launches a year-long series of educational events that will focus on the theme, The Possibility of Renewal: The Shoah Between Past, Present, and Future. This year’s programming, presented by the UC San Diego Library and the UC San Diego Jewish Studies Program, will unearth how renewal is possible in the wake of genocide, shed light on what it means for a defeated people to resurrect its past, and explore the roles of memory and justice in the process of renewal.

September 19, 2017 — The UC San Diego Library and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla are teaming up to celebrate the work of internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Joyce Cutler-Shaw. The joint exhibition, “Library Duet,” highlights the many stages of a distinguished and prolific artist’s career. The Athenaeum exhibit, opening September 23, will display a retrospective of Cutler-Shaw’s artist’s books from its permanent collection, while the UC San Diego Library will exhibit Cutler-Shaw’s archival materials, including its permanent display—Alphabet of Bones—and Cutler-Shaw’s current work, Brain Project. An opening reception will be held in Geisel Library on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 5 – 7 pm in the Seuss Room.

October 15, 2016 — Four undergraduates at the University of California San Diego have been awarded the 2016 Undergraduate Library Research Prize, co-sponsored by the UC San Diego Library, the UCSD Alumni Association, and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

September 26, 2016 — The Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLWH) at the University of California San Diego kicks off a year-long series of educational events with two compelling programs this fall, underscoring this year’s theme “Holocaust and the Burden of History.” The 2016-17 workshop events will approach the Holocaust from various angles to shed light on lesser-known aspects of the atrocities committed.

February 24, 2016 — The University of California, San Diego campus is making preparations for its annual birthday party to celebrate one of the campus’s most beloved luminaries, Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The fantastically creative children’s book author’s 112th birthday celebration coincides with national Read Across America Day and comes on the heels of the UC San Diego Library’s recent announcement to name its new café in honor of the author’s wife, Audrey Geisel.

January 7, 2016 — The 2015-16 Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLHW) series continues this January with six compelling authors, films, and other events highlighting the diverse “Holocaust Journeys” of survivors and others recounting their personal stories. Co-sponsored by the University of California, San Diego Library and the UC San Diego Jewish Studies Program, the HLHW lecture series invites local Holocaust survivors, witnesses, relatives, and scholars to share their personal stories and memories with students and interested members of the public.
