August 4, 2011 — University of California San Diego’s emergency planners have been recognized for their work in preparing for crises and instituting best practices in trying to prevent them.

July 26, 2011 — UC San Diego recently completed a $1.5 million lighting-retrofit project that has reduced electricity costs by $210,000 per year in campus offices, classrooms and meeting rooms, warehouses and other areas.

July 5, 2011 — Internationally renowned scientist and educator Marye Anne Fox, Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego and 2010 recipient of the National Medal of Science, among many other honors and awards, has announced that she will step down as Chancellor in June 2012 to return to teaching and research as a distinguished professor of chemistry at the university.

June 13, 2011 — Even though she's a staff member, Anna Gandolfi looks forward to commencement every year. And she starts thinking about it way before June. That's because she helps to plan the numerous graduation ceremonies. In addition to her duties as the business officer at John Muir College, she took on the additional commencement coordination duties in 2008 when the Council of Provosts appointed her to the position. She has worked at UC San Diego for more than two decades and was named a UC San Diego Exemplary Employee of the Year in 2006. She has also served as Chair of the Staff Association. In this interview, she talks about the challenges and fun of coordinating so many commencement ceremonies, her volunteer work and what she's learned about UC San Diego over the years.

June 13, 2011 — More than 3,300 members of the UC San Diego community donated over 62,000 hours of service during the university’s 50th anniversary celebration, contributing roughly $1.5 million of free labor, according to calculations from Independent Sector, which provides the value of a volunteer hour.

May 31, 2011 — From "Glee" to "The Sing-Off," television shows are bringing a cappella singing into the mainstream. And a new a cappella group at UC San Diego—Acamazing—is gaining popularity right here in La Jolla. Composed of 19 students, the group has a number of songs under their belts, which they've performed both on and off campus. You can see video of their concerts on their website and on YouTube. Freshman Caitlyn Cibulsky serves as the administrative affairs officer for the group and, in this interview, she talks about why Acamazing is special.
