Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have isolated and characterized the progenitor cells that eventually give rise to malignant hepatocellular carcinoma tumors – the most common form of liver cancer. The researchers found ways to identify and isolate the HCC progenitor cells long before actual tumors were apparent.

Fallen Star," the small blue house that seems to dangle off the edge of Jacobs Hall, has been awarded the 2013 Grand Orchid by the San Diego Architectural Foundation. Deemed "nothing short of brilliant" by a seven-person jury, "Fallen Star," by Korean artist Do Ho Suh, is the 18th sculpture commissioned by UC San Diego's Stuart Collection of public art.
