In addition to the two summer sessions for UC students, a multitude of summer camps and programs take over campus. This includes programs for pre-college students that aim to educate young minds and direct them to a future at a four-year university such as UC San Diego.

Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla proclaimed his love for the ocean at a Scripps Institution Oceanography welcome reception, which was part of the Making Connections plan to introduce the new leader to the campus and community. There was just one caveat: as a non-swimmer, Khosla said, “I love looking at the water, just not being in it.”

Jerome and Miriam Katzin have endowed a $4 million fellowship fund to support UC San Diego graduate students. UC San Diego’s more than 5,000 graduate students raise the caliber of the university’s work by advancing groundbreaking discoveries, driving innovation, and generating new knowledge and leadership that will make a difference locally, nationally and around the globe. The Katzins hope that their gift will also inspire others to support graduate education at UC San Diego.

New Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla recently went on a behind-the-scenes tour to see what makes UC San Diego one of the nation’s greenest universities. The tour was part of the Making Connections plan to introduce the Chancellor to the campus and community. It was designed to show Khosla how “we lead” in energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.

UC San Diego Alumna Gives $100,000 to International Undergraduate Research Program

The University of California, San Diego’s international research program Pacific Rim Undergraduate Experiences (PRIME) recently received a pleasant surprise—a $100,000 gift from young alumna Haley Hunter-Zinck. The funds will support the greatest needs of the PRIME program, including assistance for future students who travel to the Pacific Rim to conduct research. Hunter-Zinck made the donation in memory of her late mother, Jennifer Zinck.

New Chancellor Receives Enthusiastic Welcome at Annual Staff Picnic
