UC San Diego ArtPower’s 2015-16 Season Brings Global Artists to San Diego

ArtPower, a multi-arts presenter at the University of California, San Diego, will offer six distinctive series in its upcoming season: chamber music, film, innovation, dance, global music and jazz. The season includes the return of audience favorites, such as the Calder Quartet and David Sedaris, as well as global artists making their San Diego debut.

These Microscopic Fish are 3D-Printed to do More Than Swim

Nanoengineers at the University of California, San Diego used an innovative 3D printing technology they developed to manufacture multipurpose fish-shaped microrobots — called microfish — that are efficient swimmers, are chemically powered and magnetically controlled. These proof-of-concept synthetic microfish will inspire a new generation of “smart” microrobots that have diverse capabilities such as detoxification, sensing and directed drug delivery.

Q Camp Invites Incoming UC San Diego Students to Discover Campus’ LGBT Community

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center at the University of California, San Diego will host Q Camp on September 23, a day-long program for incoming LGBT freshman, transfer and graduate students as well as returning students who are newly out. The goal is to introduce students to LGBT life on campus as well as resources that support equity, diversity and inclusion.

Today, the University of California, San Diego announced a charitable gift that acknowledges our current climate reality, and the effective multidisciplinary approach to solutions that is a hallmark of UC San Diego. Richard and Carol Dean Hertzberg have committed $5 million to establish the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The new center will provide science-based strategies for adapting to climate change.
