The University of California San Diego today announced the 2016 recipients of the prestigious Chancellor’s Medal and Revelle Medal. Awardees of the Chancellor’s Medal, one of the highest honors given by UC San Diego to recognize exceptional service in support of the campus’ mission, include: Peter Farrell, Richard and Carol Dean Hertzberg, Kwan and Marion So, and Daniel Yankelovich. The Revelle Medal recognizes current and former faculty members for sustained, distinguished and extraordinary service to UC San Diego. This year’s Revelle Medalists are Y.C. “Burt” Fung, Veerabhadran “Ram” Ramanathan, Roger Reynolds and Palmer Taylor.

Students Initiate Ambitious Get Out the Vote Campaign as Nov. 8 Election Nears

Massive voter registration efforts are underway at UC San Diego as students from the nonpartisan Student Organized Voter Access Committee (SOVAC) race to register 4,000 students by the California deadline on Oct. 24. SOVAC has registered more than 1,400 students since the campus’s move-in weekend in mid-September and the organization has been making additional efforts through tabling, outreach events and debate parties.

UC San Diego’s Division of Arts and Humanities Wins Its Largest Foundation Grant

The University of California San Diego’s Division of Arts and Humanities took a leading role to secure a $2.59 million grant award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The award supports a joint program with the San Diego Community College District (SDDCD) that helps humanities transfer students transition to UC San Diego—a top 10 public university. According to Dean Cristina Della Coletta, it is the largest foundation award the division has received in support of the humanities.
