Building upon a long history, the UC San Diego has launched a new Human Milk Institute to accelerate research into the biology and therapeutic potential of human milk to prevent or treat both infant and adult diseases. The new institute is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States.

Growing up in a rural Southern California town in the 1990s, Tammy Russell didn’t know any scientists, but she started dreaming about a future in marine science. Fast forward to 2022, and Russell is now living out her childhood dreams as a PhD student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
