The University of California, San Diego is inviting students from California Community Colleges to campus for a series of events called “Transfer Fridays,” which are dedicated to educating community college students on the various pathways to transferring to UC San Diego. The series of outreach events are scheduled to take place from 11a.m. to 4 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 25 and Friday, Nov. 8.

“Transfer Fridays” are designed to assist transfer students who may be considering applying or transferring to UC San Diego and to give them valuable information on admissions, on-campus housing, academic departments, financial aid, research opportunities, career services and more. Students also will be able to interact with campus leaders at the half-day event. In addition, campus tours of UC San Diego’s transfer student housing community and the general campus will be offered.

“We are pleased to welcome these bright, motivated community college students to our campus. We look forward to showing them all that UC San Diego has to offer as a superior student-centered public university right in their own backyard,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “Community college is a great avenue to UC San Diego, and our transfer students bring a unique perspective that adds to the vitality, strength and diversity of our student body.”

According to interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs Alan Houston, UC San Diego has one of the largest transfer student populations in UC system. This year, UC San Diego admitted 7,923 transfer students, the second highest amount of transfer admits in the UC system, up from 6,869 transfer admits last year.

Houston added that more than 90 percent of UC San Diego’s transfer students come from California’s community colleges.

“Transfer students are a huge asset to our campus community, in part because of their life experiences,” said Houston. “For example, one quarter of all student veterans in the University of California attend UC San Diego, and the vast majority of these are transfers from California community colleges.”

The guided campus tours will include exclusive tours showcasing UC San Diego’s award-winning transfer housing community, the Village at Torrey Pines. The Village consists of 13 buildings, two of which are 15-story high rises with incredible ocean views. All of the resident apartment homes feature modern amenities and a sleek design aesthetic. As with freshman and sophomore students, transfer students at the Village also have access to resident advisors.
