New PayScale Report Lauds UC San Diego for Earning Potential of Alumni

Alumni midcareer annual salary estimated at $102,100 and starting salary estimated at $50,600

A new report from PayScale.com lists the University of California, San Diego as the 11th best public university in the U.S. for the average mid-career (15 years of experience) salary of alumni, which is $102,100 per year. The same report also names UC San Diego the 15th best public university for its return on investment (ROI) for alumni who are California residents.

“UC San Diego provides an academic experience that helps graduates prepare for successful careers and be engaged citizens of the 21st Century,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “A UC San Diego education enables social mobility and enhances the lives of thousands of students and families.”

PayScale.com, an online provider of compensation calculations, notes that the 20-year net gain in income by a UC San Diego graduate versus a high school graduate is $549,700. The annual gain in income or ROI––what students pay to attend versus what they get back in lifetime earnings––is 9.1 percent. The website also lists that the average starting salary of UC San Diego alumni is $50,600.

According to PayScale.com, graduates of UC San Diego work in a variety of industries including the software development industry, the aerospace and defense industry and the education industry. The most popular career sector among alumni is the biotechnology research and development industry.

The website states the data for the UC San Diego College Salary Report is furnished by the campus’s graduates who completed PayScale.com’s salary questionnaire.
