The countdown has begun – in just 97 days, UC San Diego will hold its 7th annual Triton Giving Day. Over the years, the campus fundraiser has provided support for a wide range of areas — from Triton Athletics and The Preuss School UC San Diego, to the Rady School of Management and the School of Medicine.
Carrying the theme, “Unlocking possibility together,” this year’s 24-hour event will be held on April 30, bringing the Triton community together to support our schools and colleges, student support and success resources, UC San Diego Health and campus initiatives.
To grow and expand Triton Giving Day even further, the campus is holding a series of kickoff parties and drop-in informational sessions for the entire UC San Diego community to learn about how they can get involved. The events will provide a fun environment where campus partners can connect and learn about participating and making a positive impact in their respective areas.
“Giving Day is a collective campus effort and we are excited to partner with even more campus areas this year to help raise needed funds,” said Melissa Vogt, executive director of Annual Giving. “The great thing about Triton Giving Day is that a gift of any size – $5, $10, $100 or even more – adds up to make a significant difference for small or large programs alike.”
The kickoff parties will be held in the Torrey Pines Center North Board Room, located on the second floor of 10300 N. Torrey Pines Road. Featuring light refreshments, two session times will be offered:
- January 28: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
- January 29: Noon – 2 p.m.
Attendees will learn about a broad cross-section of successful Triton Giving Day initiatives from past years. Just a few examples of the areas of impact include:
- Rallying around our students, donors gave more than $7,600 to the Student Health and Well-Being Fund. With the goal of keeping our students healthy and thriving while on campus, the fund supports Student Health Services, Health Promotion Services and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
- UC San Diego Athletics’ Triton Men’s Rowing team raised more than $40,000 to support experiences and opportunities for scholar-athletes that ultimately help them compete at the highest levels. The team leveraged creative social media marketing on Instagram, including a reel that garnered 12,000 views.
- With a generous $40,000 dollar-for-dollar match from Rady School of Management donors, the school was able to double the impact to the Rady School Graduate Fellowships, securing 56 gifts totaling $48,630.
- In addition, the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) participated for the first time last year in Triton Giving Day. As a result, the center received $1,970 in support for the Friends of UC San Diego Daycare Endowment, which supports the greatest needs of the center as it cares for some of our smallest Tritons.
"We decided to participate in Triton Giving Day because it provided ECEC with a chance to expand our reach far beyond the ECEC families we work with daily to the entire UC San Diego community," said Leia Wilson, director of the Early Childhood Education Center. "The support we received last year to our endowment provided us with flexible funding that we can use to pursue key priorities like enhancing our programs, investing in our teachers and expanding access through tuition assistance. Our ECEC staff, families and our little Tritons are so grateful for the support of our whole campus family and are excited to participate again this year."
This year, the goal is to make an impact for even more areas at UC San Diego, benefiting our students, faculty, staff, patients and community. While information will be provided about Triton Giving Day participation at the two January sessions, those who are unable to attend can visit tritongivingday.ucsd.edu for more details or email Sean Harding at sharding@ucsd.edu.
