Mandeville Art Gallery Opening Celebration

The long-awaited opening of the university’s Mandeville Art Gallery took place Saturday, March 4 with a first-of-its kind exhibition and celebration, featuring work of the newest members of the UC San Diego Department of Visual Arts: “ARE WE NOT DRAWN ONWARD TO NEW ERA,” The first, all-faculty exhibition in eight years will be on display through June 18.
The gallery opens after three years of extensive renovations and upgrades designed by the leading architectural firm Studio E Architects, and under the leadership of the newly appointed gallery director and chief curator, Ceci Moss. Guests included students, faculty and staff, as well as the greater community. Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons, School of Arts and Humanities Dean Cristina Della Coletta and Deptartment of Visual Arts Chair Ricardo Dominguez gave welcome remarks, celebrating the legacy of art at UC San Diego.
"Innovative artistic practice and art research play an important part of the distinction of UC San Diego as a top-tier, public institution," Della Coletta said. "What's more, we know our award-winning faculty members allow us to bring some of the best creative minds to campus, whether it be undergraduate students exploring their passion for art and media, graduate students who are coming into their own as artists and experts, or guest speakers and artists-in-residence."
