A framework based on advanced AI techniques can solve complex, computationally intensive problems faster and in a more more scalable way than state-of-the-art methods, according to a study led by engineers at the University of California San Diego.
“The problem World Mobile is solving has global implications,” says Stuart Volkow, World Mobile program manager. “Those without [connectivity] are doomed to relative poverty.”
A UC San Diego team wants to create a company to give first responders and emergency room personnel a new, portable and cost-effective tool to rapidly diagnose stroke patients and speed treatment. It also shows whether the same good could be imported from another source country at a cheaper price.
UC San Diego bioinformatics researcher Vineet Bafna and machine learning and data analysis researcher Mikhail Belkin are among the 68 scientists worldwide named as Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) fellows.
